International Economic Review

An academic journal jointly edited by the University of Pennsylvania and ISER, the University of Osaka.
International Economic Review (IER) has since its inception had editorial offices at both the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Osaka, and has been operated under the leadership of Editor Dirk Krueger (University of Pennsylvania) and Co-Editor Maki Aoyagi (the University of Osaka), with mutual independence and cooperation. The journal is managed under mutual independence and cooperation. The members of the Editorial Board are internationally recognized researchers in a wide range of fields.
Background of First Issue
IER was founded in 1960 by Michio Morishima of the University of Osaka and Lawrence R. Klein of the University of Pennsylvania. From its inception, IER was an instant success, publishing a series of influential articles in the fields of mathematical, theoretical, and econometric economics. These papers are considered modern classics. Many journals in economics have since been launched, but IER has consistently been highly regarded as one of the top economics journals in the world.
At its inception, IER received significant material and financial support for its editorial activities from the Kansai Economic Federation. Today, IER is operated as a non-profit joint venture by ISER (the University of Osaka) and the University of Pennsylvania Department of Economics.
IER publishes one volume and four issues per year (February, May, August, and November) and accepts submissions in English only.
International Conferences
The IER editorial office at the University of Osaka has sponsored or co-sponsored international conferences, and some of the papers reported there have been published in IER. For example, a conference on “Economic Analysis of Japanese Firms and Markets” was held in November 1992, and another entitled “New Developments in Experimental Economics” was held in March 1999. Both conferences attracted about 100 participants from Japan as well as from North America, Europe, Australia, and other parts of Asia.
